Loading to Explode ... CELEBRATION OF AWA LEGENDS & HERITAGE

WHY WE SHOULD CELEBRATE

Abraham J. Heschel, a Polish-born American rabbi and one of the leading Jewish theologians was quoted in The Wisdom of the Heschel of saying, “People of our time are losing the power of celebration. Instead of celebrating we seek to be amused or entertained. Celebration is an active state, an act of expressing reverence or appreciation. To be entertained is a passive state--it is to receive pleasure afforded by an amusing act or a spectacle.... Celebration is a confrontation, giving attention to the transcendent meaning of one's actions.

Behind the thin lines of the above quote are the reasons why Ndi-Awa and her legends shall be celebrated.

Looking back in time, a few decades ago, one would agree that of a truth, a number of our sons and daughters have achieved great feats in their careers such that it is proper to say, well done! – agu nnaa bia nara aka! This is more so when these great Awanians have applied their hard earned resources, time and knowledge in the development of the town.

Yes. We shall celebrate! We shall celebrate success. We shall celebrate patriotism. We shall celebrate entrepreneurial spirit. We shall celebrate great Awanians. This is the subject of Rhythm of Honour.

Preparations are on top gear to roll out the drums in celebration of our great achievers. Awa: Legends & Heritage Magazine is the epoch medium to kick-start this celebration program. The magazine shall showcase our legends and their success stories, as well as offer invaluable opportunity to publicize the businesses and endeavours of Awa sons and daughters.  It is a call for a moment of appraisal and honour for our shining stars that are great instruments the Almighty has bequeathed us for the development of our community. Besides, the magazine is a reflection on the spate of development in Awa as well as the numerous bounties of natural endowments in the town. It also gives a vivid account of the socio-cultural lifestyles handed down to us by our ancestors. Such adorable lifestyles entrenched in our family values, age grade system, communalism, marriage system, life of hospitality, etc are core values that need to be documented as pieces of history for our children and generations to come.

The celebrations shall be culminated on December 29, 2018, in an epoch event where great Awanians shall dance on the arena. It promises to be one event no Awanian can afford to miss.
There is no better time to do so. We can longer wait for a perfect time. Like Natalie Dormer said, ‘’Perfect is very boring, and if you happen to have a different look, that's a celebration of human nature, I think. If we were all symmetrical and perfect, life would be very dull.’’

So, fellow Awanians, lets keep the date!
